Racial abuse of players on social media- Is it getting worse or just more prevalent?
At the moment, it seems like after every game some player involved has been getting abuse on social media.(Thankfully from what I've seen none of ours have been on the receiving end, nor have any oppo players from our games)

Really sorry state of affairs, but has it always been this bad but was just never really publicised before, or is it getting worse then it used to be?

Sorry if I've repeated myself on this, but god knows what they're going to be like when things go back to normal with actual fans in the ground hurling actual abuse at them.

The threshold of racism is lower than ever and the instant reaction to any perceived racism is so instant that it's almost a given that it can be reported in any mass reaction to a player's last game, especially if reporters are trawling looking for it. Who can forget the report on the Millwall/Brighton supports chanting Sieg Heil? And some plain made up things for that matter.

Oh who fucking cares? These players have become such a bunch of fannies, if you want to hang about on social networks to have your fucking arse licked twenty four hours a day you have to take it on the chin when the inevitable arsehole rocks up and calls you nasty names. It's just fucking words. These cunts are going to shit themselves when they have to play in front of a crowd.

I still say the best thing to do with this stuff is to not even acknowledge it. All the media hysteria just makes more idiots come out of the woodwork because it gets media attention. It's just fucking words, get over it millionaire footballers or log the fuck off.

Boring.

Why would someone that sends a player a message resort to mentioning colour, surely the first thing to say would be how crap they were or mention a particular mistake they'd made!

I also wonder if any white players get racist abuse, given that black people (generally just IMO) seem to discuss and are consumed by colour and race issues more

It probably sounds silly to say it, but the vast majority aren’t even racist people. They’re just mongo’s who want to say something to hurt that person and get a reaction.

Good point, paddy.

I think its a mixture
Probably more of it, probably more players feeling like they should highlight it and more spineless cunts feeling emboldened by the reaction it gets and the complete inability or interest of social media companies have in helping getting people prosecuted.

Have said before opening a social media account should require ID like opening a bank account.
Use a fake name if you like but you can be identified if you break the law.
Facebook etc arent interested in requiring every account to be verified as the number of valid accounts would drop massively and hurt their advertising revenue.
The alternative is Facebook takes on the responsibility of being a PUBLISHER and stands behind every word posted on their site. And the cunt Zuckerburg spends the rest of his life in court and then jail.

Vexed is correct. Ignore it or laugh it off.

If a player absolutely has to buzz his bollocks on social media, make sure he has an account manager who can chase down the abusive little shits off-line and give then a proper slap.

I would be prepared to take a slap every week to be on the wages some of these cunts are on never mind a bit of abuse.

The racist stuff is probably a bit out of order though.

within an infinite universe, all quantum possibilities exist simultaneously.

in the same way, twitter represents all possibilities of human discourse: with the noted exception of anything actually worth reading.

I agree with Vexed. You are always going to have these keyboard warrior types who wouldn't say the same thing in a million years at a game or face to face. Whilst the racists stuff is bang out of order bringing attention to it is what half these muppets want.

Is there not a "blank" facility on social media where an account holder can simply remove a follower and all their posts?

I'm sure a few egos can suffer losing some "admirers", but not so sure the SM companies can/will.

Players all have their account run by big media companies and in turn all making money from it .

Muhammad Ali gave up his whole career at its peak to make a stand against racists and the treatment of black people so asking football making millions to just pack it all in is a fair question .

Until they do sod them all let them drown and play in the bucket of shit that is twitter.

Re: Racial abuse of players on social media- Is it getting worse or just more prevalent?
For me there is acceptable racial abuse and the unacceptable kind political correctness drags into the public debate.

For example, calling someone a sweaty sock or sheep shagger is acceptable for British jokes on racial stereotypes.

When I looked again at the comments that John Terry said about Anton Ferdinand which was apparently "Fucking black cunt" I thought, yes he's fucking black and a bit of a cunt so what's the problem?

The problem is he took exception to being called black in a high tension, competitive moment. Would a Scotsman have complained of racial abuse if he'd been called a "fucking sweaty sock cunt" or a Welshman a "fucking sheep shagging cunt"? Probably would never happen because the Scots and Welsh are proud of their origins as are the English.

Perhaps it might be better for black people to feel better about being black and have thicker skins? I don't suppose that will ever happen because the politically correct blame culture now sweeps across Britain.

There is a certain truth in that.

Which is why I support Wilfred Zaha's view that he isn't going to kneel but will stand upright and be proud of who he is.
Always used to make me laugh when you'd hear of some fat redneck racially abusing Muhammed Ali ... basically saying Ali is inferior. The good looking, articulate, multi millionaire who was heavyweight boxing champ of the world.

How is it people don’t get this. When abusing people just don’t mention their colour or racial characteristics.

There is plenty of scope for abuse so use it and be imaginative.

As for what John Terry said there is no excuse for it at all.
